6 Ways to Banish the Winter Blues

Is anyone else sick of dark mornings? Driving home from work in PITCH BLACK!! I want daylight back, please!!

I love the Christmas period but once that's over, nope, I'm done.

The dark nights and cold weather can make you feel a bit gloomy, especially if you’re already not in a great mood! I’ve compiled a little list of all of my favourite things to do when I’m feeling a bit down.

Here are my Little Pick-Me-Ups.

  1. Make yourself a hot chocolate (with lots of lots of squirty cream)
Now you guys are probably thinking ‘Make a Hot Chocolate? What the heck is that gonna solve?’ Trust me… Just do it. Pile it high with squirty cream and just have some ME time. Even add some marshmallows if you please. I’m not a fan of marshmallows (I know, don’t kill me!) but I feel like this 10 minutes of happiness can cheer me up on a cold, dreary night.

  1. Listen to some music from the 90’s or early 2000’s. Seriously.
This has been a big thing for me recently. I really love to put on a playlist on Youtube from the 2000’s and just sing my little heart out! I tend to do this when I’m driving by myself… (With the windows up. Wouldn’t want anyone thinking a cat was being strangled to within an inch of it’s life.) Seriously though, I genuinely believe that music can change your mood. You wanna cry? Put on that really sad depressing song. You wanna smile? Listen to some old school Avril Lavigne and sing to your hearts content.

  1. Do your Make Up.
Now i’m not sure if this is the same for everybody… but I really can make myself feel a million times better when I put some make up on. I’m not saying that you NEED make up to feel good about yourself. Not at all. But if I’m feeling crappy about myself then the entire process of doing my make up can change that. I love the colours I can create by mixing eyeshadows, the way I can instantly change my facial shape with a little contouring. Make-up is quite literally a life saver for me.

  1. The obvious. Have a lovely Lush Bath!
Take some time out for yourself. Grab yourself a Lush bath bomb (or any bath bomb of it’s kind. I’m not biased!) Light a couple of candles and put on that 2000’s playlist! I feel like that half an hour of relaxation really helps me forget my problems. Even if it’s just for a while!

  1. Read a book.
A really, really good book. Whether it’s a new one that you are hooked on and can’t put down or whether it’s one that you already know that you loved 3 years ago. Pick up a really good book and get stuck in. I don’t think there is a better feeling in the world than being sucked into a fictional land with characters that you genuinely care about. Suddenly you don’t care about your problems and worries, all you care about is whether Will falls in love with Lou! (If you get that reference, we’re besties now.)

  1. Watch Bridget Jones.
Okay. So this one might be a little niche and I may be pushing my film opinions on you a little bit. But please… just try this one. I feel like whatever mood i’m in, Bridget can fix it. If Bridget can get through her day to day life… so can you.

I hope you all enjoyed reading my little Pick-Me-Ups and even if you just use one of these… I’m happy to have helped.

What are your favourite things to do when you’re feeling down?

Lots of love.
