NYC Day 7 - Ice Skating in New York, New York.

If you’re ever going to make a trip to New York… pack your comfiest trainers. That’s the best advice I can give you.

Talk about packing it all into one day. With just a full day and half of Tuesday left… we weren’t gonna miss anything out!

This morning we visited ‘The High Line.’

After much frustration trying to find the start (or just any part of) the High Line, we finally made it. The sun was shining, I was sweating (Leather Jacket wasn’t the best choice this morning.)

I would definitely recommend doing this, last time we came to NYC we didn’t put it into our itinerary but it was really lovely to see how the old train track had been made into a little garden walkway for people to enjoy.
It was LONG though. Like… long. I did find myself thinking ‘Surely there’s an end somewhere?!’ But it was never boring… always beautiful views.

As soon as we made our way back down onto the streets we saw this cute little restaurant called ‘Bubbys.’ I KNOW, we actually just walked into a food place without ‘TripAdvisoring’ it first!

It was AMAZING. It was just about lunch time when we got there so we decided to have ‘Brunch.’ I had Bacon, Eggs and pancakes with Maple Syrup. Every part of it was delicious and I decided on a Pink Lemonade which came in a cute little mason jar and it was all just very INSTAGRAMMABLE!

We were sat outside and the sun was beaming down and I’ve honestly never felt so relaxed. I’m not sure if that was because I was so full from the food or so tired from the walking.. but it was just incredible.

'Feel free to say whatever the f**k you want!'

I was actually pretty sad when we had to leave Bubby's… because it meant more walking. I’m really lazy.

We made our way to Washington Square Park and I had a wee in one of the most disgusting toilets I’ve ever encountered. Just thought you might wanna know that, try and pee before you get there because it’s NAAAASTY.

After paying a bit too much for some average Ice Lollies at one of the stands in the park it then decided it was gonna get a bit chilly. Brilliant timing there, weather Gods, thanks a lot.
The park was beautiful and I really enjoyed just sitting on the steps and taking it all in. Watching the New Yorkers going about their daily life while this is all so alien to me!! I always find it incredible when I go on holiday that people actually live in these places just like I live in England.

We really didn’t wanna miss out on Little Italy and ChinaTown as this is something that we didn’t have time to do on our last trip. We didn’t have any meals there because we’d only just eaten but we did stop off at Eileen’s Special Cheesecake which was AMAZING.

I had a Salted caramel cheesecake and although it was tiny.. I could not finish it! Zach had a strawberry one and he loved it (he even finished mine.)

Little Italy was very crowded and we spend ages looking for the sign which was a bit underwhelming! I bet it would be incredible at night when you’re going out for a meal though, so many amazing restaurants to choose from, they all smelled delicious!

China Town on the other hand… not for me. Markets with tables outside with fresh fish on and it really made me feel unwell. Hanging meats too, I hate that smell. But that’s just me… you may really enjoy it!!!

TOP TIP OF THE DAY: If you’re wanting to bring home classic NY gifts home for family or friends (Keyrings, magnets, little statues etc) then get them at China Town. They charge TWICE as much for exactly the same things if you get them somewhere like 5th avenue or Times Square. This may be an obvious thing but Zach told me to do it and we saved a fortune!

Heading back we decided that we really wanted to do one ‘view’ activity before we left. We had already done the Empire State and Top of the Rock on our last visit so we didn’t want to re-do those (although both were insane.)

We chose the One World Observatory. I was really surprised at how quiet it was and how quick we got our tickets and got up there. The most special part about our night was that we went when it was the ‘Super Moon’ and it was just incredible.

I Facetimed my Mum from up there as they had Wifi and it was such a special moment. (Mum said ‘It aint as good as Blackpool though is it?!’) lol not at all Mum.

One of the ladies that worked there was doing a presentation and was praising ‘Eataly’ which was just around the corner from the observatory… so guess where we headed for dinner!

Again, it took a while to find. We were tired and a little bit disorientated if I’m being honest.

Eataly is a mix of little stalls, markets and restraunts all on one floor so after weaving our way through cheese counters, we finally found the ‘Pizza and Pasta’ place!

Zach got a pizza (shock) and I went for the Lasagna and it was just the perfect portion size. I wasn’t mega hungry so when my lasagna came and it was quite small, I was so happy because my eyes finally weren’t bigger than my belly!

I had spent the whole holiday wanting to Ice Skate in the Bryant Park rink outside our hotel but because Zach injured his ankle (playing football the DAY BEFORE we flew out here) we were holding on until he felt a bit better.

With it being our last night we made our way onto the ice. Well.. that was after spending about 50 minutes trying to work out Padlock for the lockers.

Zach couldn’t do much skating as his ankle was so sore but I was flying around that ice like there was no tomorrow. I loved it so much. Looking up at the buildings all lit up and the Christmas decorations was so magical and I will never forget it.

Writing this now…. I can’t believe that we packed so much into such a short day but we definitely made the most of our penultimate day in NYC.

Have you ever been ice skating in NYC? I'd love to hear about it!

Lots of love.
