NYC Day 2 - Manhattan Madness

Waking up in New York City is one thing that every person should have on their bucket list.

The one thing that Zach and I have loved doing on both of our trips to the big city is falling asleep with the curtains/blinds wide open. Waking up to the view of the bustling city. (We were 22 floors up so don’t worry about our privacy, nobody could see in!)

I think this is when it really hit me that we’re here. We are back. Looking out of the window, down onto the street where the cabs were beeping for no apparent reason and the people in suits and dresses are dodging the tourists with their cameras.

What I didn’t mention in Day 1 is that the main reason for this trip was for Zach to see UFC. Seeing UFC isn’t just going to the big fight on Saturday, it has quite a few ‘events’ that lead up to the big day.

So… Today was an early start. We both had our tickets to the ‘Open Workouts.’ Yep, that’s a thing. We were going to spend the morning watching some men and women workout.

The Open Workouts took place at Madison Square Garden, which in itself was such an amazing experience as I’d never visited the arena and I can see why it’s one of the most famous arenas in the world.

I was a good girlfriend and sat there (scrolling Facebook and Twitter) whilst fighters worked out and gave their little speeches about how excited they were to knock each other out on Saturday! Woo!!

I’m not going to lie to you guys, it was extremely boring. Even Zach said that it wasn’t that great (but promised me the next events during the week were much better!) so I found that I was just sat there thinking about where we can get food once we were finished!!

I decided to take a look on TripAdvisor at the food places that were near us. Low and Behold, I found a Pizza place to beat all Pizza places. TripAdvisor reviewers, you are not wrong. People were QUEING out of this place to get in and once we had ordered our slices, we had to wait another 10 minutes for seat. But my word, it was worth the wait. Hands down one of the best pieces of Pizza I have ever eaten.

I literally could not wait to eat this so therefore there is a photo with some bites taken out. #greedygirlproblems

With the UFC things done and dusted for the day, we decided to have a little walk around the city and see where the day would take us.

We had a look around some shops but decided to save the proper shopping for a day where we were less tired. But we did stop off at ‘Jacks Store.’ I have never been so confused in all my life than when we were in this store. Advertised as ‘More than a dollar store’ we thought it might be like pound land? But a bit more….!

In the doorway they had Christmas Decorations next to the Lindt Chocolates next to the $7.99 denim jeans. Floors and Floors of toys next to socks next to air fresheners. I have never seen anything like it in my entire life and Zach and I had a running joke the whole holiday. ‘You want some chocolates? Why, they’re right over there next to the $7.99 Jeans!’

Whilst at MSG, we decided to get tickets for the Basketball game that night, the NY Knicks vs Brooklyn Nets. I’ve never seen Basketball before and I thought it would be a fun experience, we saw Baseball last time we came but I didn’t enjoy that so much! Too cold and too long, but basketball was inside the arena and I figured it would be a lot more fun to watch!

I was right. We were sat up in the heavens but it was still an amazing view. With drinks and hot dogs, we had such a fun night and I can really see myself becoming a Basketball fan, I had to stop myself buying all of the T-Shirts and Merch! (Although I did buy a big foam fingers for $10!)

I recommend going to see a game if you’re ever in the city. It’s not hard to follow at all and it’s actually really tense and fast paced! I was cheering on the NY Knicks and I could feel myself really getting into it! (Just call me Kirsty Jordan.)

After the game we headed back to the hotel. When you go on holiday you always expect that you’re gonna be up early and stay awake really late to make the most of your time… but in NYC that all changes. We were EXHAUSTED.

After stopping off at ‘Chick-Fil-A’ (Zachs new favourite place and he is now absolutely devastated that he can’t get one here in the UK) we decided to call it a night.

We needed to get some rest to prepare ourself for Day 3… more UFC events (with a little shopping thrown in for good measure!)

Have you ever been to MSG? I'd love to hear about it!

Lots of love.
Kirsty
